Building Safety Month 2010 – Sponsorship Opportunities

During 2010, the International Code Council (ICC) and International Code Council Foundation (ICCF) will expand Building Safety Week into a month-long Building Safety Month campaign to expand opportunities and increase awareness about the critical importance of building and designing safe, sustainable and green structures in the United States and worldwide. As part of this expanded effort to generate awareness about the progress made during the past 30 years, Building Safety Month will showcase historic milestones, current technologies and future innovations in building and fire codes as well as construction and safety technologies.

Taking a look at the past, present and future will be a catalyst for communicating the critical role of building and fire codes in maintaining safe and sustainable environments. Moreover, Building Safety Month will demonstrate the leadership role that code officials play in protecting families and individuals who live, work and play in buildings around the globe.

Campaign Facts:

  • Building Safety Week was first celebrated in 1980.
  • During 2009, more than 2,600 individuals in 17 countries pledged their support for the 2009 Building Safety Week (www.buildingsafetyweek.org).
  • The President of the United States, governors, mayors and county officials from 31 states issued Proclamations, Official statements and Letters of Recognition in support of 2009 Building Safety Week.
  • Print, broadcast and online news media across the nation acknowledged the importance of building codes and the professionals who enforce them with more than 60 stories in 400 media outlets that reached an estimated audience of 416,359,000.
