Project H.E.R.O.
Project H.E.R.O. (Homes Eliminated of Restrictions and Obstacles) is a volunteer-based program founded by the International Code Council Foundation (ICCF) to help our disabled American veterans. The program was created to provide disabled American veterans an environment within their home that meets their unique needs and gives increased independence, mobility, and maneuverability required for day-to-day living. Shelby Bowling's home in Hamilton, Ohio is the first renovation completed under Project H.E.R.O. The efforts of Construction & General Laborers' Local 534, Cincinnati United Contractors, and supporting subcontractors provided Bowling, a local disabled Vietnam veteran, an 800-square-foot addition to his Hamilton home. Construction & General Laborers' Local 534, the Laborers' International Union of North America, and Cincinnati United Contractors were among the many who generously donated funding and project management for the addition of a wheelchair-accessible first-floor entry, foyer, bedroom and bathroom for Mr. Bowling's two-story home. Through the donations of labor and materials by LIUNA, Construction & General Laborers' Local 534, Cincinnati United Contractors and other sub-contractors, the project was completed in June 2007.
